Is Surah Al-Baqarah Intimidating for You to Read? Here Are 5 Easy Tips to Help You Get Started
Surah Al-Baqarah is one of the most powerful and spiritually transformative chapters in the Qur’an. At the same time, it’s also the longest chapter—spanning over two Juz—and can feel overwhelming to read in its entirety, especially in one sitting.
Yet, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) strongly emphasized its value and the blessings that come with its recitation. He (ﷺ) said:
“Do not turn your houses into graves. Verily, Shaytan does not enter the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited.”
(Tirmidhi)
“Read Surah Al-Baqarah, for reciting it regularly is a blessing and forsaking it is a cause of regret, and the magicians cannot withstand it”
(Muslim)
“Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)
Many people have experienced powerful changes in their lives after committing to regular recitation of this chapter. From increased rizq (sustenance) and emotional healing to protection from spiritual harm—Surah Al-Baqarah has been a means of ease and transformation for countless believers. People have shared testimonies of:
-
New job opportunities or financial relief
-
Marriage and fertility breakthroughs
-
Healing from physical illness, even serious ones like cancer
-
Relief from anxiety, depression, and emotional heaviness
-
Protection and healing from spiritual afflictions such as evil eye, sihr (black magic), or jinn-related issues
-
Peace and harmony returning to their homes
Personally, reading Surah Al-Baqarah in one day was a long-time goal of mine. Alhamdulillah, I was able to complete it on my own a few years ago. I want to share with you the 4 steps that helped me get there—plus one bonus tip that has helped many others, especially those struggling with afflictions.
5 Tips to Help You Start Reading Surah Al-Baqarah
1. Listen to the recitation daily
If reading it feels overwhelming at first, start by listening to the surah during your daily routine—while driving, cooking, laying down, or preparing for bed. This helps you become familiar with the verses and builds a mental connection with its flow and rhythm.
2. Practice with a Qur’an teacher
Reading with a teacher ensures proper Tajweed and gives you accountability. I personally read 15–20 minutes every Friday with my teacher over the phone, right after reciting Surah Al-Kahf. This consistent, bite-sized approach helped me gain confidence and eventually read the full surah alone.
3. Break it into 4 parts
Divide the surah into four manageable sections. My mushaf divided it into 6 pages per section. You can read:
-
One section after Fajr
-
One after Dhuhr
-
One after Asr
-
One after Maghrib or Isha
Each section may take 35–50 minutes depending on your pace.
4. Use a timer
Timing yourself keeps you focused and allows you to gradually track your reading speed. You might surprise yourself with how much you're able to read when you simply stay consistent and focused.
5. Read along with a reciter
If you don’t have access to a teacher, use websites like Quran.com to play each verse and repeat after it. This method improves your pronunciation and builds fluency, especially when done consistently.
Bonus Tip: If You’re Spiritually Ill
If you’re dealing with spiritual affliction—such as evil eye, black magic, or jinn-related issues—and find it hard to read, start by playing the audio in your home regularly. You can:
-
Play it softly on a speaker throughout the night
-
Listen with headphones for personal focus and healing
-
Let it play in the background during the day as a form of protection and blessing
The spiritual weight of this surah is unmatched. Let it become part of your daily atmosphere, even before you’re able to recite it fully.
Final Thoughts
Don’t be discouraged if you can’t read it all in one day right away. Build up gradually. The blessings and protection that come with Surah Al-Baqarah are immense. Start small—but start sincerely—and insha’Allah, you’ll see the light and change that comes from it.
May Allah make it easy and rewarding for you.
